Complimentary Wine Tasting July 16th

Established in 1972, Clos du Val, whose name in French means “small estate of a small valley”, has vineyards in Carneros as well as in the Stag’s Leap District in Napa Valley. Owned by American businessman John Goelet; French-born winemaker Bernard Portet’s old world style of winemaking is a perfect example of balance, complexity and elegance. The 1972 vintage of the Cabernet Sauvignon took first place at the reknowned 1976 Paris tasting that tested how well French and American wines tested over the 10 years previous.

2006 Merlot

Aromas of black berries, dried herbs and cassis. Rich and well integrated with a long lingering finish

Laurent Miquel is installed at the Château Cazal Viel, owned by the Miquel family since 1791. Located at the foot of the mountains Caroux, the vineyards can "develop subtle and varied wines." The climate calls for hot and dry summers which are often followed by a mild fall, thus giving rise to "beautifully aromatic wines, which are beautifully sung to their fabulous terroir."

Chardonnay Viognier

Described as "bursting with fresh fruit character," the Chardonnay Viognier has combined aromas of citrus and white peaches. On the palate enjoy rich apricot and citrus flavors with a hint of almond on the finish

Syrah Viognier

Signature blend of Syrah and Viognier grapes co-fermented without the use of oak. This allows the full expression of the fruits and pays homage to the terroir

Firefly Fine Wines and Ales in Maple Ridge will be having a complimentary tasting of Clos du Val and Laurent Miquel wines on Saturday, July 16th from 3pm -7pm.

Beer of the Week - Rogue John John Juniper Ale

Rogue John John Ale

In their second collarboration effort, Rogue Master Brewer, John Maier, and Master Distiller, John Couchot released John John Juniper Pale Ale.  This ale consists of Rogue Juniper Pale Ale aged in Rogues's Juniper Gin barrels.  Gin lovers will recognize the oddity in this approach-gin is not typically aged in barrels.
To craft this unique brew, John Couchot aged the Gin in oak barrels so the barrels can soak up the flavour of the gin.  The barrels are then emptied and rolled by forklift from the Rogue Distillery to the Rogue Brewery.  John Maier later fills these barrels with Juniper Pale Ale so that his creation can adsorb the gin flavours from the barrel.

Tasting Notes:
A hint of cucumber and a Sprucey note in the aromas followed by a Juniper bite mid palate finishing with a soft oakiness.

Wine of the Week - Domaine de Chaberton 2008 Siegerrebe VQA

Domaine de Chaberton Estate Winery
2008 Siegerrebe

A floral nose with a delicate hint of honey is joined by light citrus notes and fresh, ripe orchard fruit flavours.
It has a clean, crisp finish and has a great balance.

Food pairings:  Delightful with spicy chicken dishes, Asian cuisine, curries or a plate of assorted cheeses and fruit.

Beer of the Week-Dieu du Ciel! Rosse d'Hibiscus

Dieu du Ciel! Rosse d' Hibiscus

Rosée d’Hibiscus is a soft spoken wheat beer. The rose colour comes from the hibiscus flowers added during the brewing process. The aromas and flavour of this tropical flower are very prominent in the beer, giving it a slight acidity and a very agreeable fragrance. It is the perfect thirst quencher on a hot summer day.

Wine of the Week-La Stella-Lastellina 2009 (Rose)

La Stella-Lastellina 2009

A Merlot Rose with personality and elegance.
Pale salmon in colour, this wine offers up aromas of ripe strawberries, rhubarb, and nettle.
This friendly greeting carries through on the palate as blueberry and plum flavours take over the finish.
The flavours and silky texture are a great contrast to the light colour.
This style of Rose will compliment any hot summer day.
