Beer of the Week - Propeller London Style Porter

Propeller Brewery from Halifax Nova Scotia has consistently been voted as best microbrewery for the past 9 years. Here in BC, we are lucky to have a few of their brands. Firefly Fine Wines and Ales stocks the Bitter, IPA, London Porter and most recently their Honey Wheat and Pale Ale.

The Propeller London Porter is brewed in the classic Porter style that has been around since 1750. It is a dark and full flavoured beer, made with softened water and more smooth and a little less bitter than stouts.

Pairs best with BBQ, Gouda cheese, chocolate, and smoked meat

Wine Of the Week- Kato Sauvignon Blanc

Kato means "Harvest" in Maori, referring to the unique heritage of the region. The vineyard is located in the Awatere Valley in Marlborough.
This winery is very concerned with the protection of all natural environments including the ocean and the creatures in it.
Kato proudly supports the WDCS (Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society)
Their saying is "Drink the Wine. Save the Whales".

This Sauvignon Blanc stands out for its vibrant aromas of melon , Passion fruit and citrus. The palate combines the same aromas but with the flintiness and minerality so representative of this terroir.

Enjoy this well balanced, long finish wine with seafood or pasta as well as salads and ethnic cuisine.

Beer of the Week - Morte Subite Original Gueuze

Gueuze is a Belgian lambic beer that is made by blending 1 and 2-3 yr old beers into a new beer, rebottling, and then undergoing a secondary fermentation. Because of the light use of aged hops and  the extended ageing in wooden barrels for a year, this beer is referred to as the Champagne of the Beer world. The style is sprightly and elegant.

Pairs best with mussels

Wine of the Week - Calliope Sauvignon Blanc

Named for the Greek Muse of Eloquence and the smallest hummingbird in Canada , Calliope wines takes flight with this delicate expression of Sauvignon Blanc, lightly oaked with tropical and citrus fruit tones. This wine shows classic herbaceousness and is a great example of the cool Okanagan climate

Pairs best with Grilled shrimp, or Ahi Tuna with an avocado and mango salsa

Wine of The Week - Therapy Merlot

Therapy - Merlot 2008

This wine is barrel aged  and has a rich intense nose of black cherry, plums and dark chocolate.
The palate has elements of leather, chocolate and an earthy undertone which help make this wine one that can be consumed early or allows for some aging.

Buckerfield's Brewery Swan's Berry Ale

Full bodied ale with berries added in fermentation.
Light amber red in colour-great complexity and delicacy.
