Wine Of the Week - Hester Creek Character White

Wine Of The Week
Hester Creek Character White Blend 2010

This is a blend of Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc and Trebbiano. The aromas jump out of the glass with hints of green apple, peach, herbs, and mineral notes. It is a off-dry style, with a smooth long finish. Try this aromatic white with food or sitting on the patio on a sunny day. Its perfect for calamari, fresh oysters, or spicy Asian fare like Pad Thai or Indian Korma's.

Wanna try it? Come to the Maple Ridge Firefly and try it in our Enomatic machine this week.

Beer Of The Week - Driftwood Spring Rite

Beer Of The Week
Driftwood Spring Rite

The second of their 100% local malt series. "Inspired by the Abbey ales of Belgium, the base malt is an artisan barley that is grown and malted on the Saanich Peninsula, (as close to the brewery as we can get). Finishing with a healthy dose of floral hops and the distinct funk of brettanomyces yeast, Spring Rite will continue to evolve with some aging."

Tasting Notes: Belgian ale that's pale Orange in color and has great aromas. Of spicy, peppery, candy grapefruit peel. Now on palate you can taste all the aroma flavors with a little brown sugar on the finish.
Food Pairing: This beer will stand up next to salty pastrami and Dijon mustard, also it will go with some Thai dishes as well as some fish with a little spice or a stinky cheese platter.

Enjoy now or age it.

New Arrivals - Moon Curser Vineyards

Not really a new arrival, just a new name for a vineyard we carried before.
Twisted Tree Vineyards is now Moon Curser Vineyards and along with
the new name come some striking new labels.

We have the Moon Curser Afraid of the Dark (Viognier, Roussane, Marsanne), which used to be the Twisted Tree Viognier Rousanne.

And the Moon Curser Border Vines (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Carmenere, Malbec,
Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc), which used to be the Twisted Tree Six Vines.

New Arrival: Pisco

Capel Pisco is a spirit (brandy actually) from Chile.
Made from Moscatel grapes it is silky smooth like a good vodka
and has a unique flavour with a hint of the grapes its made with.
Good on the rocks as an apertif, it really shines in citrus or pineapple
based cocktails.

Pisco Sour
60 ml Pisco
30 ml simple syrup
30 ml fresh lime juice
30 ml egg white
Shake all ingredients thoroughly in a shaker with a lot of cubed ice.
Strain cocktail into a glass and garnish the foam formeed by the
egg white with several drop (or dash) of Angostura bitters on the top.

Wine of the Week

Trio Syrah/Tempranillo/Cabernet

Purple ruby in colour, the nose is full of leather, cherry, dark fruits and spice.
While the palate echoes the nose adding ripe plums. This wine is complex
with soft tannins and a lovely balance.  Pair with well seasoned red meat dishes
as well as mushroom and grilled eggplant.

Beer Of The Week

Granville Island False Creek Raspberry Ale

Just in time for summer.
