Howe Sound Brewing have launched a special commemorative ale for Andrew 'Boomer' Eykelenboom, a medic with the Canadian Forces who was killed in Afghanistan. This is a highly drinkable and well balanced Canadian Red Ale made with five different malts and two different hops. It is smooth with a good malty back-bone and refreshing finish. $1 from every bottle sold will go to Boomer's Legacy Fund. This helps soldiers fund people in need in the areas that they operate, such as funding for an orphanage or health centre. A worthy beer for a worthy cause!

Firefly Fine Wines and Ales is proud to celebrate the one year anniversary of its Maple Ridge store with a complementary wine and beer tasting event on Saturday, November 27, 2010 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at 21755 Lougheed Highway. Guests can embrace the festive spirit early and stock up on a vast selection of wines and beers from a diverse range of quality wineries and breweries.


Maple Ridge residents can enjoy social mingling, taste testing and Christmas preparations at the special event. In-house wine professionals will provide a sample of stylish wines and ales from select wineries and breweries in British Columbia. Wineries in attendance are Bonita’s Winery, Forbidden Fruit Winery, Hainle Vineyards, Stag’s Hollow Winery, and Chocovine. Select craft beer featured will be Central City Brewing, Russell Brewery, Howe Sound Brewery, Tree Brewing, and Lighthouse Brewing. This contemporary exploration of beverages takes place amidst an equally cutting-edge interior of inviting dark wood and sleek chrome that houses over 2000 square feet of choices.

Spy Valley Pinot Noir

Dark berry fruits and ripe black plums are the main features of the bouquet. A subtle tar/mineral note along with the complexities derived from barrel aging contribute interest to the nose. Fruit sweetness and palate weight are the hall marks of this wine. Underlying soft tannins coupled with a lengthy finish complete this wine.
