Vancouver Playhouse International Wine Festival April 19-25, 2010

The Vancouver Playhouse International Wine Festival is one of the biggest and oldest wine events in the world. This year the spotlight is on Argentina and New Zealand.

The heart of the festival is the International Festival Tasting Room at the Vancouver Convention Centre, where wines are available for sampling, with more being served at special events including a gala auction, wine seminars and trade events.

Argentina has been described as the wine world’s 'field of dreams'. Often at dizzying altitudes, under the snow capped Andean mountains, sun-drenched grapes are ripened to perfection year after year.

New Zealand wine is an experience like no other. Special combination of soil, climate and water, their innovative pioneering spirit and commitment to quality all come together to deliver pure, intense and diverse experiences. In every glass of New Zealand Wine is a world of pure discovery.

Wine of the Week - Pascual Toso Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2007

This wine comes from the area of Las Barrancas in Maipu Valley, a stunning location with premium quality soils, ideal climate and environment.
The area is located in the Mendoza, Argentina.

It is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon and was hand-harvested in small baskets from select lots. After fermentation the wine was aged in new oak for 12 months before bottling.

Pascual Toso Reserve has elegant style, with lovely boysenberry and raspberry fruit and plenty of vanilla, spice and chocolate shadings. The wine is lengthy and has a focused finish and sweet, but consistent tannins.
All these notes give elegance and complexity to the wine.

The wine pairs well with red meats, lamb, Italian pasta or French cheeses.
