Beer of the Week - Innis & Gunn Canadian Cask

Innis & Gunn Canadian Cask Scottish Oak Aged Beer

This limited edition 2010 Canada Day beer is maturated in Canadian whiskey barrels.  The use of rye in the beer recipe gives the beer a honeyed raisin character, as well as, a very deep ruby hue.

The nose is  raisin and orange, fruity hops and a hint of Canadian rye whiskey.

The palate is smooth, complex and delicious.

The finish is toffee, malt and a raisin fruity character.

Wine of the Week - Circus Cabernet Sauvignon

Circus 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon

This wine has aromas of fresh dark fruits, chocolate, peppers and spices.
On the palate, it has soft tannins and medium acidity with the same fruit (plums, blackberries and raspberries), chocolate and spice characteristics.

Well suited for casual dinners or when you are looking for something enjoyable to drink, it works well with many foods.

Tasting Events this Weekend

Complimentary Bud Lite Lime Tasting Friday June 18th from
4pm to 7pm at Firefly Maple Ridge

Complimentary Ruby Tuesday Wine Tasting Saturday June 19th from
4pm to 7pm at Firefly Maple Ridge

Located on the picturesque Naramata Bench in the Okanagan Valley,
Ruby Tuesday is owned and operated by Prudence and Beat Mahrer.

The winery’s name was inspired by the 1967 Rolling Stone’s classic, “Ruby Tuesday”
and is a testament to Prudence’s visions and dreams. No stranger to the wine industry, the Mahrers had previously owned and operated the Red Rooster winery.

In 2007, they had hired winemaker consultant Phillip Soo to create their wines, so that when they opened up doors in 2009, they would have a red wines such as Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon along with Viognier and Riesling available for sale in their tasting room.

Beer of The Week- Petrus Blonde Ale

Petrus is a series of high-gravity beers from Brouwerij Bavik in Bavikhove West Flander, Belgium.

Petrus Blond pours a dark, hazy tan with bits of hops floating in the beer. The presentation is actually beautiful. The color is rich and dark and the hop flakes are bright and fresh-looking. The nose is rich with malts but a cleanness granted by the hops. The malts are sweet and rich but not candied. They lend subtleties of citrus and brings out the freshness of the beer.

The palate is very smooth and clean. You get a kick of citrus on the finish but it's still got a lot of that malt kick. This would be a great pairing to lobster or crab.

Wine of The Week- Mission Hill Reserve Chardonnay

This is a very good Chard. It has a lovely bit of buttery, not over the top though, with some oak is present. This is a wine loaded with peach, tropical fruit (pineapple and banana), floral, butterscotch and toasty oak aromas. The lively acidity, fresh fruit and oak notes combine to deliver an elegant balanced finish.  It’s medium full-bodied with a creamy texture leading to a long finish.

Food Pairing:

An inspired match for pan-seared chicken breast with rosemary and garlic.
